Woolgathering - Patti Smith

I purchased this a while back and just finished reading it. I realized when I went to add it to my StoryGraph (the non Amazon-linked Goodreads type app), that it was coming up as a reread. Being a mere 94 pages long, it does not take long - unless you linger of the writing, the phrasing, the photos. It was originally a Hanuman book, which were 3 x 4 inches in size, and perfect to carry around in a pocket. It works well in that thought process - something to carry around, read a portion, reflect, reread, write and process, etc.

Patti Smith shouldn't need any introduction so I won't. However I got into her music when the song "Summer Cannibals" from her album Gone Again in 1996 was being played on ... KJ104? Rev 105? I thought it was an interesting song and then I discovered the song "People have the Power." I was hooked. Combine this musical power, and lyrical beauty with the fact that she was close with another artistic idol, Robert Mapplethorpe, and I was hooked. It wasn't until recently that I have started collecting her writings to have on my shelf, but I think she is amazing and I hope someday to see her in concert.

Back to the book - it reminds me a bit of some of Rollin's diaries that he published. Writing about his experiences in other cities and towns, but this is not as much documentary as Rollins. Smith writes about her life, her thoughts, her memories - all combined. I really enjoy this book and will go revisit it again, I am sure.

PS: If you are looking for an interesting listen, take a listen to her album Coral Sea. It is pretty much an audio book with underscoring and it is amazing.
