Moveable Feasts - Chris Newens

I randomly picked up this book at my new favorite bookstore - The Irreverent Bookworm - because the cover and subtitle caught my eye. "Moveable Feasts: A Story of Paris in Twenty Meals" - how could I not purchase it? The author, Chris Newens, lives in Paris and wanted to discover more about what makes Paris Paris in some ways. Why do people flock to Paris to eat at the same places that all the tourists eat, and eat the same things. What to people who live in Paris eat? So, he went to each arrondissement in Paris (all 20 of them) and discovered and ate what he considered to be the quintessential meal of that neighborhood. I found it to be a fascinating read. A lot of my love for the book comes from my love of food, and food writing. For example, I love looking at and reading cookbooks. I like seeing menus in them and seeing how the writer or chef puts flavors together, and creates something. At the same time, I love the tradition of certain foods, and how some baking processes have been handed down through generations and they still work as beautifully as they always have.

I also picked this up for a friend of mine who lived in Paris, and loves it. But I did want to give it a read first. If you happen to be interested in Paris, and food - check it out.
