The International - Tom Tykwer

An action thriller with Clive Owen, who I really like and find very handsome, and directed by Tom Tykwer. What more could you want? The story is a bit odd because it is about a bank that is trying to buy a missile defense system from China, only to resell it. Their theory is that war is what banks want - not because of arms sales, or anything like that, but because of the debt they are owed by the countries at war. Needless to say it feels a bit fitting to watch a film all about corporate greed, and companies that will do anything to make and keep their money.

The direction is tight and the plot is exciting. There are some stunning locations, but the focus is consistently on the story being told. There is a fantastic scene that takes place at the Guggenheim, and personally I think the film is worth watching just for that. It is a action thriller, with espionage themes and it keeps you guessing to the end. Totally worth watching.
