3 - Tom Tykwer

Almost done with my Tom Tykwer collection, and what a fun ride it has been. This film is more similar to his early films in that it is more about relationships instead of action or thrills. That is not to say that there isn't some edge-of-your-seat moments, but not in the same way as previous films.

The film 3 is about a couple - Hanna and Simon, who have been together for a number of years. You eventually find out that it is their 20th anniversary, 20 years since their first kiss. And at that time, they decide to get married. However, before this even happens we see them both, individually, have a physical affair with a man named Adam. The film is artistic with moments of multiple scenes going on at the same time so the viewer gets more of a sense of what is happening instead of being allowed to focus on each individual scene. There is quite a bit of talk about art, ethics, genetics, and I found the film to be really interesting. The performances by the three leads are really good. I found their performances to be very natural, and easy to watch. You can clearly see the changes they are going through to get to where they end up. I think it is a very good film, and really worth the watch. So - check it out.
