Cloud Atlas - Tom Tykwer

What a ride this film is. Based on the novel by David Mitchell, it was adapted for the screen by  Tom Tykwer, and the Wachowskis (known for The Matrix, and other films). The film was also directed by all three. So, what is it about?

It has six different story lines that it consistently switches between - often feeling like there is no rhyme or reason for the switch. Each story is different, with different characters though the actors remain the same. There is a core cast of nine actors who are in each story though their characters/genders/race may not be the same in each story. The core cast is lead by Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Bae Doona, Ben Whishaw, and Keith David. As has often been the theme with Tykwer's work, the film is not any specific genre. There is romance, there is comedy, there is Sci-Fi, intrigue... like life itself. Did I enjoy it? in many ways, I did. I don't think it is a film that I can rewatch right away, but I have a feeling I will revisit it at some point. It is a daring film for sure.
