I will be getting to Paris and New York at some point but for today Rio, I Love You is where it is at. Each film is made up of at least 10 short segments that reflect on the city and on love within that city. While Rio is gorgeous to watch, both because of the scenery and the people, I did not find the stories as engaging as the other two.
There are some sweet stories being told, for sure. The first is of a woman who chooses to be homeless, and how she is suddenly reunited with her grown grandson. She tries to explain her joy and her choice of living the free life that she feels she lives. There is a story of a famous guy (not sure why he is famous) who arrives in Rio on a press tour and while being driven to his hotel he sees Sugar Loaf and has a desire to free climb it. He does so with his driver. There is a charming and very quiet segment lead by Vincent Cassel who creates sand art. There is a vampire story (which is the second vampire short in this series from what i recall). And finally there is a segment that extends through out the whole film with Harvey Keitel. It is very sweet, once you get to the end. Each segment is written and directed by someone different so the styles vary and the stories are varied as well. The concept is fantastic, I just am not as engaged in some of these stories as I am with the other two collections I have seen so far. However, don't take my word for it. Check it out.
