Paper Moon - Peter Bogdanovich

Directed by Peter Bogdanovich, this black and white film from 1973 is such a good film. While I have some issued with Bogdanovich's personal life, there are two films of his that I really like. Paper Moon is one of them. This was my first time seeing Ryan O'Neal, who I found very handsome, and his daughter Tatum O'Neal (who I would later see and love in the film Little Darlings), along with my introduction to Madeline Kahn. I loved that it was a Depression time story, and filmed in black and white. I was young when I first saw this so seeing a new film that was shot in B/W was still a new experience for me.

The story is about a con man Moses who gets forced into taking Addie to family after her mom had passed. Now, through out the film it is never said for certain if Moses is Addie's father or not, but she has money given to her in a will that he uses. So she is determined to stay with him until he pays her back...even though she is only nine-years-old. She also teaches him a con or two. At one point he picks up Trixie Delight (Kahn), and the sparks between Addie and Trixie are a joy to watch. It is not your standard road movie, but not your standard con film either. It is a great combination of both, while also showing the building of a relationship between these two characters. So good!
