Harsh Realm - Chris Carter

If you know the show X-Files, or the show Millennium, you know the work of Chris Carter. If you enjoy both of those series, I am sure you are aware of a short series Carter did named Harsh Realm. This show, running from 1999-2000, is a fully different show than the other two. This one season show is about one soldier who is sent into an alternate world that is computer generated/virtual reality. In it, his goal is to find and terminate a specific general, Terry O'Quinn who was also in Millennium. The general is trying to take over the Virtual Reality. It is very much an Apocalypse Now directive. There are actually some good moments in this nine episode series. I think if the show were to have continued past the first and only season, it may have been really good. As it is, it is an ok show. There is a lot of unnecessary violence - like one character punching another because the victim is not talking, yet the act of being punched is preventing the victim from talking. That sort of action is super boring to me and never helps tell a story - especially if it is information that we the audience needs to hear, or we already know. That being written, there are some really good actors in this show, and some really interesting story line. However, all together it doesn't work as well as it should have - at least to me.
