While the guidebook is primarily about Tokyo, it also covers Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and a final chapter of off-the-beaten tracks. Each section is divided in similar ways. Tokyo is the main subject and is broken down into Retro Tokyo, Foodie Tokyo, Nature Tokyo, Art & Fashion Tokyo, Quirky Tokyo, and Late-Night Tokyo. The chapter finishes with a selection of day trips from Tokyo. The information is provided in a simple way with good personal tidbits, clear directions, and helpful guidance along the way (like checking the train schedule, checking the times of the place you are going to, etc). There are also great helpful social hints scattered throughout as well for anyone who is not used to Japanese culture.
Some of the places mentioned I have been a number of times. Other ones were new to me and someday I want to go check them out. If you have been thinking of traveling to Japan, and have the privilege to do so and return safely, then this may be the perfect guidebook for you to check out. The illustrations through out by Justine Wong are gorgeous and sweet. I would recommend this book to anyone who is planning a trip to Japan.
