By now I assume you have seen, read, or at least heard about the Vanity Fair article about the Twin Cities Art Scene. We are called an "artistic hotbed." And it is the truth. We have an amazing cultural community here in the Twin Cities. There are the big names theatres and performance groups, but at the same time there is a wide and ever expanding selection of smaller theatre/performance groups (not including Community Theatre) that add vitality and diversity to our artistic community.
One of these companies is Interact. The vision of Interact is to "create art that challenges perceptions of disablity. We create art in a spirit of radical inclusion that inspires others to explore the full spectrum of human potential." The term "art" is used which usually brings to mind visual art like painting, drawing, sculpture, etc. However, Interact also does art in the performance field as well. While I have yet to see any of their work, I love knowing that they are here, doing what they do, and adding important and vital work to our community.
Is this the first time you are hearing about Interact? Well, have I got a surprise for you. This weekend they are celebrating 28 years of performing! That is incredible and so great! They are celebrating with a gala, and their recent show "Interact's Greatest Hits: the Essential Cabaret Collection." This work has an interesting setting where Satan threatens to take over Madame Josettes bar, and so Madame Josette and her feather boa have to go find friends both old and new to combat this threat. While doing that, the company gets to perform some of the great numbers from past shows, as well as some new numbers. It sounds like a really fun time, and a fantastic way to truly support local talent, as well as the work that Interact does.
