Pharos And Pharillon - E. M Forster
I fell in love with E. M. Forster when I first saw the film A Passage to India. I thought it was a stunning film, it got me interested in India, and the writings of Forster. Later, of course, I saw Maurice, Howard's End, Where Angels Fear to Tread, and A Room with a View. These films were also my introduction to the films of Merchant Ivory. All gorgeous and I will certainly write about their films at some point as I own most of them. I believe Passage to India was the first novel of his that I read, and I thought the writing was magnificent. I have read a lot of his work, all of his novels, and a few short story collections as well. I started diving into his non-fiction and essays because I am interested in if his writing changes or not. I found this little tract of a book about his journeys and experiences in Egypt. He also writes about the Greek poet Cavafy, who I did not know until I read this slim tome. It can be found here, and you can also find copies available online. If you enjoy the writing style of Forster, give this a read.
