| Wicked Wenches |
If you don't know the work of the Wicked Wenches Cabaret, they are a local performance group that does what they call "Vaudevicals." They are a mixture of vaudeville and musicals. Musicals, in this case, don't necessarily mean sung like in standard musicals. It means the use of music and dance to tell a story. Vaudeville, in this case, means a variety of acts that are taking place within the context of a story. Do these numbers move the story forward, or give more depth to characters? Like in all musicals - sometimes yes, sometimes no. You can read some previous Wicked Wenches shows on my blog. I have written about Vamplorette, How the Grinch stole XXXmas, and Clue: A Show to Die for. The incredible blogger Cherry and Spoon wrote about the ExperTeaser show named Limelight.
To be clear, Minnsky Theatre does not just do 18+ shows where burlesque is involved. They have done children's shows under the name Cirque de Lune (Little Fox and the Wheel of Time), as well as shadow casts of some great classic films - think Rocky Horror Show with a live cast performing it while the film is playing on screen. So far the Minnsky Players have done shadowcasts for the film Labyrinth, and Princess Bride. Finally, Minnsky Theatre rents out to local production groups and theatre groups. This past summer they were a Fringe Festival Venue, and are hoping to be that again for the 2019 Fringe Festival. Cherry and Spoon saw a few Fringe productions there this past summer.

So, why am I writing about this space again now? For a few reasons. First off, a lot of the performers in the ExperTeasers, Cirque de Lune, Minnsky Players, and the Wicked Wenches Cabaret study and train at ExperTease Fitness. This alternative fitness studio has been in business for a number of years, and in a variety of locations. When I started taking classes there they were located off of Broadway and 94...not the best location though it was a great space. Their neighbors were a brewery (which was fantastic) and a corner bar (which was not). For the safety of the people who train there, it was decided to move the studio. This past spring they moved into the Historic Thorp Building which happens to be located directly across the street from Minnsky Theatre. They have moved a few times before this and hopefully this is the final move as the current space is perfect. A very safe and centralized location, lots of space, and some great neighbors. This move was made specifically so that the students had a safe location to learn, practice, and rehearse. This is the type of community ExperTease Fitness creates - a safe community for all people, all genders, all shapes, sizes, etc. This move added some financial stress to the business and so they are working on raising money to kill off some debt that was accrued when the business first started years ago. There is a Go Fund Me page if you are willing and able to help out.

Secondly, it is that time of the year when everyone has a Black Friday sale, or a Small Business Saturday, or a Cyber Monday sale. ExperTease Fitness is having a Black Friday sale on classes for next session (starting in Jan). Minnsky Theatre is also having a Black Friday sale of season tickets in the form of a Flex Pass. Take a look at the season this next year - it is incredible! Three different shadow casts, two new Cirque de Lune shows, a monthly variety/vaudeville show by the ExperTeasers, and six shows by the Wicked Wenches, including three new shows!
Finally, the theatre is giving you the opportunity to become a member. For less than $10 a month you can support the theatre, get some recognition and some other great benefits - like free tickets. Check it out here.
