Little Fox and the Wheel of Time

There is a charming show playing currently at Minnsky Theatre in Northeast Minneapolis. It is performed by Cirque de Lune and is called "Little Fox and the Wheel of Time." It is the first children's show being performed by the core company at Minnsky. Let me tell you it is funny, sweet, and exciting - perfect for children of all ages.

The story is about Father Time, Mother Earth and their four children, Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall. Each of the seasons has a jewel set in the wheel of time. This keeps time moving forward and provides each season a time to shine. However...something happens and the jewels get stolen. Little fox awakes from her hibernation to find that it is still winter. With the help of the Owl, Squirrel, Fawn, Harbinger, and the Season sisters - the race is on to replace the jewels before Father Time falls asleep forever!

I saw it on a night where there were kids as young as four and they were captivated. The story is simple enough for them to understand and get caught up in. At the same time there is plenty to captivate the adult audience as well. Each of the seasons has a specific skill that they use to create a new jewel. For example, Summer has a fantastic trapeze act, while Spring has a great act on aerial silks. Autumn, and Winter each have their moment to shine as well. There are four great dancers from the Experteasers who are there keeping the action moving so the eye never gets bored. There is always something to watch. And there is a fire act - did I mention that? Talk about exciting!!! Beyond the circus acts, the actors all have great facial expressions - even if they don't have lines. Little Fox and Harbinger kept making me laugh with their antics. There is some great physical comedy happening here.

There are two more performances. Tickets are available and you can save $5 by purchasing them ahead of time. Performances start promptly at 7pm. The show is just over an hour long with a 15 min intermission so kids could easily be in bed by 9. Of course, there are delicious snacks and cupcakes for sale during intermission (including gluten-free, and I believe vegan options). So if the kids are not to hopped up on sugar, or too excited by all the amazing circus things they saw - they could be in bed by 9pm. Also, there are adult beverages as well. Go see this great show and support a really fantastic group of local performers.
