Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil - Clint Eastwood

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is probably not a classic in any way, but it is a good film as it is the introduction of quite a few people. It seems to me that it introduced Kevin Spacey to quite a few folks, however looking at his record..clearly I am wrong. He started in Film/TV back in 1986, and this came out in 1997 - after Henry & June, The Ref, The Usual Suspects, Se7en, and even L.A. Confidential...though it was before what so many consider his break-out, American Beauty.  To me it was more a John Cusack film, and I really enjoyed seeing The Lady Chablis on screen. To someone who was gay in the early 90's, it was a great thing to see a gay character on screen that wasn't pushed off to the side, and to see a character like Lady Chablis as well. It gave a great intro (to those who missed Gattaca) to Jude Law, as well as another great scene-stealing character for Dorothy Loudon! More than that it was a success for director Clint Eastwood.

The story is about a journalist (John Cusack) who heads to Savannah to interview the Kevin Spacey character, and write about his life and his family. While he is there, there is a shooting and he sticks around to try to figure out who did it, and why. The characters are interesting, the story keeps moving is quite a good story - it creates such an amazing atmosphere. Every time I see it I think - I need to get me to Savannah. While I may never understand the politics of the south, I do enjoy the south - hot and sticky, ocean, beaches, fantastic architecture, really interesting people and history. What can you do?
