I saw this in the theater and loved it. It is a fascinating double documentary. Every Little Step tells the story of the original production of A Chorus Line, while at the same time being a documentary of the 2006 Broadway Revival. What makes this so good is watching these young actors go through the process of auditioning - from the first cattle call, to the final call backs. Watching them learn the choreography with Baayork Lee, watching them learn the roles and songs...so cool.
Beyond that you get the story of how A Chorus Line was created originally. It has video of rehearsals and the original production, as well as audio recordings of the interview sessions that created the show. Much to my amazement, I recognized one actress who I had met while she was on tour with RENT! What I found really interesting were those actors who made changes to the choreography to show themselves off, even in the final round when they should be doing exactly what everyone else is doing. Seeing actors get in the wrong mindset and mess up their final audition. Tragic but good because it shows that it happens to everyone. The biggest thing I learned is how long it takes for a show like this to get cast and up. Between one audition and the next it could be weeks or months. As a bonus they have commentary with both directors (film directors) and the composer. There is also an interesting featurette with Donna McKechnie - the original Cassie. If you are looking for a good documentary, Every Little Step is a good one.
